What does this look like?
Pathway 1 has a carefully planned, bespoke and purposeful
curriculum where subjects have been meticulously designed to
deliver breadth and depth in essential learning and life skills.
There is a strong emphasis on strengthening the building
blocks of learning skills. Curriculum is delivered using a range of
strategies, with a clear balance between learning in the
classroom and the transfer of skills to other learning
opportunities. Our curriculum is rich in vocational and life
experiences, both on-site at St Elizabeth’s and in the wider
community. Independence and work skills are a core part of the
curriculum and delivered through a range of practical and
functional activities both inside and outside the classroom.
Religious Education
Our learning in Pathway 1 is underpinned with our
Catholic values upheld across the school. We use
our Come and See RE scheme to help gain a deeper
understanding of our faith and how we share God’s
message with those we meet.
Community is very much at the heart of our learning
and we pride ourselves on our engagement in the
wider school community, through whole school and
centre wide events. We celebrate our faith through
assemblies, Gospel celebrations, Mass and enjoy the
end of week Prayer through Song.
In Pathway 1 we empower lifelong learners to
enquire about and apply a range of
transferable life skills that enhance
independence, communication, problem
solving, resilience and self-advocacy. These
skills and qualities prepare our learners for the
next stage in their educational journey.
In Pathway 1, our learners experience a joy of
learning and celebrating each other’s
successes, developing communication, team
work and independence skills throughout all
learning opportunities. The focus is to aspire our
learners to develop and use a range of
transferable skills that can be applied to future
education and employment.

The curriculum in pathway 1 is designed to encourage
independence and foster learners’ resilience and
confidence. Learners are encouraged to be aspirational
and to think towards their future, building on their
knowledge and skills which will help them to get there.
They are supported to develop their emotional
intelligence so they can express themselves, share their
interests and respond to a range of learning and work
experiences in a positive and purposeful manner.
Measuring impact
In Pathway 1, we assess the learners personalised EHCP targets,
alongside bespoke curriculum frameworks, through our online
Earwig system. Learners have daily qualitative evidence
collated through this system and targets are regularly
reviewed and updated throughout the school year. For those in
key stage 4, we also use our Preparation for Adulthood
framework to create personalised targets, supporting the
learners to understand and work towards their independence
and work goals.
