What does this look like?
Learning is well structured throughout the day
integrating play with structured teacher led sessions.
Lessons will be built up in duration and formality to
suit the needs and attention of the learners with
purposeful opportunities of challenge.
The development of social and communication skills
is a key part of the curriculum with carefully
structured activities, games and outdoor learning
giving plenty of opportunities to practise their
communication with both adults and peers.
Religious Education
Our learning in Pathway 2 is underpinned with our
Catholic values upheld across the school. We use
our Come and See RE scheme to help gain a deeper
understanding of our faith and how we share God’s
message with those we meet.
Community is very much at the heart of our learning
and we pride ourselves on our engagement in the
wider school community, through whole school and
centre wide events. We celebrate our faith through
assemblies, Gospel celebrations, Mass and enjoy the
end of week Prayer through Song.
In Pathway 2, our learners are encouraged to
become more curious and inquisitive about the
world around them and the learning that is
taking place in and outside of the classroom.
In Pathway 2, we continue to develop the skills
needed to work together. We develop our social
skills, communication and emotional literacy to
become ready for a more formal approach to
their learning. This is still intertwined with
learning through play and outdoor learning
opportunities that help to motivate our learners
and incorporate the things they love and enjoy.

The strategies used in Pathway 2 are designed to
enable children to build attention and develop
communicate skills. Whilst encouraging them to
be inquisitive and curious about their learning.
They will be given the tools to help regulate their
own emotions and grow to become more
independent in their learning journey.
Measuring impact
In Pathway 2, we assess our learners using their
EHCP targets intertwined with our carefully
designed curriculum frameworks that help support
their learning journey. We regularly review the
learners’ targets and continually adjust and adapt
learning strategies informed by this.
Elements of the learners’ achievements and
progress are captured in the form of photographs
and observations which feed into the assessment
against these frameworks, through our Earwig
system.
