Broad & balanced curriculum
We are lucky to be situated in a beautiful rural setting, perfect for walks, bike rides or just
to explore! We have a 3-acre apple orchard, and run a specialist organic horticultural
area with chickens and allotments.
Enrichment at college include visits to All About Alpacas, afternoon tea, Bounce
(trampoline centre), Sleeping Beauty Pantomime, meals at restaurants such as Nando9s
and the Beefeater, Hollywood Bowl, Duxford Air Museum, Rocksteady music experience,
8Pottery, Painting and Pizza9, Aerozone, Epping & Ongar Railway, Bishop9s Stortford Rugby
Club, Bishop9s Stortford Tennis Club and Hope Animal Sanctuary - to name just a few!
We have a fleet of vehicles and minibuses, used to accommodate a variety of outings.
Learners also participate in PDBA (Personal Development, Behaviour and Attitudes). This is
an opportunity for learners to become more self-aware in their journey to adulthood.
They are encouraged to become more mature, independent and confident, developing a
sense of social justice and moral responsibility, reflecting on how their choices and
behaviour may affect others. Learners develop a greater understanding of cultural
difference and celebrate the richness that diversity brings to their lives and others.
They learn how to make better, more informed choices about their health and
environment and take responsibility for their own learning.
We are proud that learners are transferring their skills learnt at college into their home
environment. Families provide the college with regular feedback and we take pride in
hearing their son / daughter is more confident, self-aware and more communicative.
The curriculum offer ensures that learners are actively encouraged to step out of their
comfort zone to experience new activities that can enhance their life. We believe that our
strengths are to promote the learners to be risk informed not risk adverse. We find
strategies to overcome potential risks, so that your son / daughter can live their lives to
the full and gain the full range of experiences that better prepare them for adulthood.
Learner Voice
Staff at college are led by the wishes and aspirations of our learners. Learner Voice gives
learners a platform to use their voice to shape their own and their peers experience of
life at college. Through a democratic vote, learners put themselves forward to represent
and run campaigns with their peers to win their votes! During the meetings, learners are
supported to discuss important issues and topics, and cast votes on outcomes.
Safeguarding is at the centre of every meeting, with learners discussing how they feel at
college and during trips, and what makes them feel safe.
Discussions also include college prom themes, Christmas trips, health and safety issues
and their concerns.
