OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Occupational Therapy (OT) works to promote an individual’s access and independence in daily
living tasks within different environments such as the classroom and residential setting. OT provides
advice and treatments on an individual basis or in a group setting.
Occupational Therapy Interventions
Cheerleading Group - a dance group which aims to develop gross motor skills,
coordination, body/spatial awareness and shoulder/arm strength and stability
Sensory Circuit Group - this is a sensorimotor group which includes a range of
activities that provide vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile feedback. This group also
provides individuals with the opportunity to regulate sensory needs/thresholds as well
as promote coordination, gross motor skills and core muscle strength
Explore and Create Group - an arts and crafts group which focuses on developing fine
motor skills including bilateral coordination, pincer grip, wrist rotation and hand
dominance.
SnackChat Group - a food preparation group which is run jointly with the Speech and
Language Therapy team. The aim of this group is to promote functional performance in
food preparation tasks, making choices and team working
Care Plans - the dissemination of care plans for staff teams to support learners’
individual needs for moving and handling, sensory processing, equipment use,
engagement in daily living tasks and accessing the community
